Yule is coming up and I don't know what to do. I have done the same thing every year. Call the sun back then sit at home and do nothing. I need some things to do for Yule. Any Ideas?

If you have small people in your life -- we take leaves and twigs and fashion a greenman face out of them -- Then we let every one "feed" him offerings of spring water and flour (we combine rice, wheat and corn - the big three that feed the world). we start with the youngest and end with the oldest. we each give silent thanks to the Gods and out loud we ask that we have renewal with the return of the sun.

Set out offerings for the Gods/Spirits/Ancestors. We usually offer food and wine.

It's also a good time to share with friends. We have a big fire and invite everyone to come and roast marshmallows.

It's cool to start the fire with a flint and steel. (Practice ahead of time)

Last year we celebrated both solstices with cheese pizzza -- I made them from scratch, with only a little sauce and a lot of cheese -- They look like great big round suns.

There is the traditional bannock cake or short bread that is rolled out round and then scored to look like rays of the sun coming out of the middle.

We also light candles for five days, because the sun will appear to set in the same place for five days (starting two days before and then Solstice and followed by two days after.)

Each night we discuss how the world is hanging in balance before once again turning to the light (We have three small children and they love this.)

This is a really good time to purify your home. Do a big winter cleaning and then refresh your altar for the new season - -(We try to keep ours seasonal).

Burn a candle lit from the bonfire and keep vigil overnight.

I always contemplate my runes over the night of the yule. It is also the best time to make your own runes -on the night of the winter solstice. The last two years I have made a set of runes, while I contemplated each one during the long night.

Just at sunset - read an augery -- whatever suits you best, be it tarot, astrology, runes .. you will know what is good for you.

Always try to have someone to share the solstice with -- It's traditional to not be alone in the dark of the longest winter night.

Bright blessing!

Have a feast and a fire. Make up an offering plate and leave it in the woods. Light candles and spend the evening meditating on the coming of the longer days. Enjoy this time with friends or just by yourself writing letters to friends/family.

It is a wonderful night of peace and joy.... a beautiful turning point in the year. Recognize this and reflect on your blessings.

Happy Yule and Brightest Blessings to you all!!!!
