I assume that you are asking about silage vs shelled corn for cattle feed. The biggest advantage is you are producing a much cheaper feed. Also since you utilizing the whole corn plant vs just the shelled corn, the feed contains a lot of fiber in the form of cellulose that the cattle can use as energy as well as it being a feed that will fill them up better than just shelled corn alone. Silage still contains enough the grain to fatten the cattle. Silage is usually fed during the winter months or to cattle in confinement where they can't get cellulose and fiber they would normally get from grazing.
