I have an eMachine T5010,
512MEG Ram (256x2 with 2 more slots available, 4 total),
2.93 Pen4 proc,
200GIG HD.
Internet connection at nearly 6 mps.
When I burn a Nero 7 ultra DVD, my CPU's clip at 100%.
The burn comes out perfect.
The problem is I can NOT do anything else while Nero is burning (except watch a movie file.)
I am not new to 'puters...Just new to burning with Nero...I already did an "msconfig" and shutdown most of the background programs at start up. I Kept my McAfee security running.

Can I add two "1 GIG" memory cards to the two "empty" slots?
(also keeping my two existing 256meg cards)

Will that fix my CPU problem?

eMachines were not really designed for that kind of use. The FSB is a huge bottleneck on those systems...The Intel 915GV is a decent chipset. I would yank everything out of there and get another motherboard...

Adding RAM can never hurt unless its the wrong kind. Take out the old and put in the 2 sticks of 1 gig each, just incase your computer cant go higher than 2 gig, it can definitely handle 2 gig.
Turn off your virus scanner while burning the dvd and your problem should be fixed.

first things first- try doing a warm boot. If this does not fix the probem then do a system restore up until the most recent point prior to problem. Other than this only thing i can suggest is don't do anything else while Nero is running. More memory probably won't help the problem you are having. And it doesn't sound to me like it is worth the risk.

because its a dvd, you got images, sound, animation and other things included in a dvd plus its higher quality so you need as much power to get that dvd to come out right upgrading to 2GB could help the problem but it could also make it worse and plus it could stuff your whole computer up if you get it, McAfee also takes quite a lot of CPU usage as well. I have nero 6 with 512MB on a P4 and i can use photoshop, flash and dreamweaver when burning a DVD.

another problem could be that McAfee is scanning your download as well.

Sometimes CPU is used up a lot because of page-faults. Go to your task manager, select the processes tab, go to view and 'select column'. select page faults so you can view the page fault for each process.

You might find that one of the programs reporting a huge number of page-faults. If it is; page faults means the CPU has to work harder to read memory from the swap file it stores on the disk. For each page fault, the CPU has to find where the memory it wants is stored.

Defragment your hard disk, look for programs that hog memory, messengers, IE, media player, Firefox etc. You don't need more memory unless it bothers you. But I would go for least another gig of RAM.

Hope this was useful.

Adding The ram may help, but most likely it's because Nero burning takes all of your cpu's power. Even my Athlon 64X2 uses 100 percent when i burn a disc (even a cd).

i dont know if adding 2 gig of ram will help because the problem is your cpu is slow and also maybe your motherboard may not support 2 gig + of ram
