I've heard this idea before. I don't think it'll ever happen. I think they should keep it like it is. It's mostly an automatic point, but there were a couple missed during the weekend games. One was on a bad snap. Anything can happen.

the system for the extra point has been in existence for
quite some time and is one of the few rules that have'nt
been changed over recent years.it can and has been a make or break systems thru out the nfl regular and post season.many games have been decided by that extra
point.concider this,2 teams are tied 7-7 one scores a
touchdown but fails to make the extrapoint, the other team
scores and does get the extra point, now the score is 13-14.if there were no other points scored the team with 14 would have won, eliminate the extra point and they're tied
14-14.now lets go back to the 13-14 score,if the team with 14 points gets a fieldgoal then its 13-17,making the other team has to score a touchdown to win,
one can see the beginning of problems with eliminating
the extra point.extra points have been missed on several occasions, just ask mike vanderjact how important the
extra point is(he's out of a job),ask lynn elliot of the chiefs
10 yeard ago,he'll dodge the subject cayse he cost the
chiefs a playoff game.if not for the sure foot of adam
vinatteri,n/england would have won 1 superbowl instead
of three.

No...they should not eliminate the extra point. There were actually 2 XP's missed this week due to bad snaps (Vikings, Rams).
I do, however, think instead of running the PAT from the 3 yd. line...it should be moved back to the 10 or 15 yd. line. That way the XP isn't an automatic thing and running a 2 pt. conversion might be worth it.

No, they shouldn't eliminate it.
Extra points have been missed, and they have cost teams games. that's why they implimented the 2-point conversion, so taht if you're good enough / lucky enough you can get 8 points instead of 7. that way they reward good teams for being good instead of just elminating it completely.
And no, field goals over 50 yards should not be worth more. If the teams isn't good enough to score a touch down or get into good field position, they shouldn't be rewarded with an extra point.

I agree with Preshus' idea that if the field goal is over 50 yards, the points awarded should be four instead of three.
No, I don't think they should eliminate the extra point.

No, because teams have missed extra points before. And 50+ yarders shouldn't count for more. Your team didn't get into good field position; why should it be rewarded with more points?

No, they should keep the extra point at one, but give them the opportunity to move it back for 2 points, and field goals over 50 yards should count for 4 points

One way of looking at it is by having the extra point you are making sure a TD is surely more than just 2 FGs.
