At this point in time, there is simply no way to know.

Yes, she was married to FDR, and her duties as his wife kept her quite busy. After he was elected president and assumed office in 1933, she toured the country as his personal ambassador, to report to him how things really were in America during the Great Depression.

In recent years, there has been speculation concerning Eleanor Roosevelt having a sexual relationship with one of her lady friends, and letters between them were examined with that thought in mind. It seemed the two women had an intense emotional connection, but it is impossible to know if they had a sexual relationship as well. As high profile as she was as the First Lady, and as closely guarded as she was by her mother-in-law before that, I would seriously doubt that even if there had been desire, that there would be opportunity.

So, seriously, the answer is, "Maybe." We just don't know.

There have been some theories that Eleanor was a lesbian. There is nothing in the historical record that supports that she ever had intimate relations with another woman. Mostly the theories revolve around the "she was so smart and capable" or "she acted like a man" schools of thought. Another important thing to remember, and this comes up with the "Lincoln was gay" crowd, is that people living in different times express themselves differently. So for someone to talk about the "deep and tender love" that they have for a friend, for example, was normal for them, and doesn't imply sexuality. If a diary or other record comes up that says she had lesbian sex, well, then she was, but unil that time, I'm sticking with the known evidence.
Frankly, I really don't think it's relevant to her accomplishments.

It is true that you can be gay and be married to the opposite sex. But personally I never heard anyone say Eleanor was gay.
However she was married to her cousin Franklin, they did have a son. But she really had very little time for sex be it that she was one of the busiest people on earth. She had to be with her husband all the time to tend to him for he was ill. She had her meddling tyranical mother in law and cousin Sarah Roosevelt, that watched her like a hawk. Then she was always in some group promoting good will everywhere. So I really doubt that she had a sex life at all.If anything she probably was A sexual.

Aah! Again and again this lass come up with some gems of questions! What a pleasure to try and answer them!!! Thanx Kim! Imagine for just one second, that someone should be so audacious as to suggest to you: Kimberly, that you shouldn't kick off your questions with your usual greetings, which include: "Thanks for answering in advance!" . . . Would you SERIOUSLY consider dropping this - by now already a - custom?! I doubt it very much. It is the same with one's self-esteem. You build up a mental picture of yourself as you go along in life. This sums up your self-esteem. And unless you allow other people's sour comments and negative critisisms to change that mental picture, you will retain it. It may evolve as time goes on, but the basics usually stays the same. Thus, Mz Rooselevt was quite correct in her assumption that no one can change your self esteem without you allowing it!

Are you serious??

I think you have answered your own question dingbat.

How can anybody who knows answer the question unless they actually know her and had a relationship with her.

I agree, being married to the opposite sex doesn't mean your not gay - so what and who cares anyway.

Leave the poor women in peace.

Sir, no one "knows" in this day and age. It's all stories. And really, what difference could it possibly make? She still accomplished what she did, either way. She's gone, let her spirit rest, please.
