I dont get it.... i need help. We have 10 problems, 5 which we have to graph. How do you convert it so you can graph it?

X+Y=5
2x-4=3y
x+3y=9
y-x=1
5x-y=15
3x-y=1
x+2y=3
2x+3y=13
5x-2y=10
4x-y= -2

Anna, i dont understand why you would change the x to negative

put it into slope intercept form...
y=mx+b
no slope? calculate it by doing
m=y2-y1
---------
x2-x1
m=slope and b= y intercept
if you get a slope thats 1/2 then you go up one over two becaues slope is
rise
-----
run
so you are rising up 1 and the run would be two

Set the equation equal to Y so that the equation is in slope intercept form. For example the third equation. Subtract both sides by x to get 3y= -x + 9 Then Divide both sides by 3 to get y= -1/3 x +3. Now it is in the form of y= mx + b. Your slope (m) is -1/3 and your y intercept (b) is 3. In this form you can also plug in values for X and get Y if you need to plot certain points on the graph. Hope that helps.

In Order:

y=-x+5
y=2/3x-4/3
y=-1/3x+3
y=x+1
y=5x-15
y=3x-1
y=-1/2x+3/2
y=-2/3x+13/3
y=5/2x-5
y=4x+2
tada!

X+Y=5 y=-x+5
2x-4=3y y=(2/3)x-(4/3)
x+3y=9 y=-(1/3)x+3
y-x=1 y=x+1
5x-y=15 y=5x-15
3x-y=1 y=3x-1
x+2y=3 y=-(1/2)x+(3/2)
2x+3y=13 y=-(2/3)x+(13/3)
5x-2y=10 y=(5/2)x-5
4x-y= -2 y=4x+2

get it? just get "Y" by it self, whatever you do to one side you have to do to the other

Slope Intercept form would be y = mx + b. m = slope & b is the y intercept. So let's take
x + 3y = 9 for example.

x + 3y = 9
x + 3y -x = 9 - x
3y = 9 - x
3y/3 = (9-x)/3
y = (-x/3) + (9/3)
y = (-1/3)x + 3

well easiest form is y=mx + b. to put them in this form just i solate y (or move everything except y to the other side. then plug in any number for 'x' to get 'y' and you'll have a point (x,y)

so for ex the first problem:

x + y =5
y= -x + 5
one point would be (0,5)

you can also use the slope instead of continuing to plug in points.

they r all in the right form, jus find the y intercept and the x intercept (to get x, subtstitue 0 for y....to get y, sub 0 in for x) and graph!!

Your numbers (5 and -2) are the factors on the graph: x and y. comparable with -sixteen and four. the 1st set is x1, y1 and the 2nd set is x2, y2. subtract y2-y1 divide via x2-x1. this supply you the slope.
