I'm looking into transfering universities. I am wanting a school and area that is fairly LGBT friendly. My major would either be Speech Language Pathology or Photo Journalism. Also, I would prefer to be close to home, which is Kansas, but it's not absolutely necessary. Any help would be appreciated!!

Well, it's a couple states over but Ohio State University's main campus in Columbus, OH is really GLBT friendly. Some of the high-ups were actually in the pride parade here in Columbus this year. The campus is in a really accepting area. There are houses just south of campus around "The Short North" that have rainbow and HRC flags on them. I lived in rural Ohio and just moved to Columbus last year. It's a great town for GLBT peeps.

I think Smith College and Mount Holyoke College are both way up there. They're excellent schools and are both SUPER queer-friendly. I went to Smith, but spent a lot of time at MHC as well.

Your best bet is to go on campus visits after you've narrowed down your list a bit. You can get a much better feel for a school if you're actually there - school literature is always a bit inaccurate.

Speaking as a gay guy who's been there; don't pick a college because it's gay friendly. Pick it because it's the best educationally. In college everything is different from high school; you'll actually learn things and social pressures are less important. People in college, unlike high school, don't care about sexuality for the most part; and every college (far as I know) has a gay straight alliance.
