how big do they need to be before they breeding?

Depends on the type of african cichlids you have. If you have mbuna (the usual 'assorted africans cichlids') they can start breeding as small as 2". Depending on numerous variables, however, they can also start breeding when larger (3"-5").

Other types of african species need a couple of years before they're ready to breed (frontosas, etc).

THEY ARE STILL YOUNG & AGAIN DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF CICHLID. KEEP IN MIND THAT EVEN IF THEY DO HAVE BABIES THE OTHER CICHLIDS WILL LIKELY EAT THEM UNLESS YOU HAVE A HUGE TANK OR REMOVE THE NON-PARENTING ONES FROM THE TANK
