I think that to some Americans, the cost of a human life is not worth any victory. To say to a mother that her living breathing child, the one she nursed and sacrificed for so that they would be a good person, is now dead, because victory was more important than life.
We did not go to Iraq to win or lose, we went to help those people so that they could experience democracy and learn to run their country on their own. They are not appreciating the experience, and want to run their country using their own methods, which is kind of what we were supposed to be going there for in the first place.
So in a way, we have already won and we all should be doing a victory dance RIGHT NOW!

We all want to see victory, it's just that a lot of us don't see how it can happen with the strategy (or lack thereof) in place. We need a change and the president has refused to change in the past. Thank God he is finally starting to listen to other opinions. Maybe now we can start to see some new plans take shape. But we really do want a victory in Iraq. There are even military leaders over there that are saying that we need a change for victory. Do you want to say that those leaders don't want to win this war? I think not.

I think many more than half the people want to see victory in Iraq. Only..."victory" hasn't really been defined. Since the beginning, the Bush administration has kept changing the reason we invaded Iraq. First it was WMD's, then it was the war on terror, then it was to depose Saddam, and on, and on.
What we need is for the Iraqi's to take over, which doesn't seem likely in the forseeable future, now that they are immersed in a civil war. Our forces are caught in the middle. It's a nasty situation, with no easy solutions.

Im a liberal. I dont feel we should leave Iraq, atleast not yet. The problem most liberals have with the war is as follows, and all are true. We are not winning the war, we cannot truly win this war, because everytime we kill and insurgent, we create ten more. We were lied to on the basis of war...grounds for impeachment. The nation is going into civil war, not exactly what we planned. And the thing that gets me, is the fact that he still wont admit we are losing the war. I agree with Sen. mccain, we should throw more soldiers at them, suppress them as best we can, and then hand it over to the iraqis as quick as possible. The whole fact of the matter, is this is bushs war, nobody elses. he had to lie cheat and steal, just to get there, and now, he cant even finish the job. Incompetence to the fullest.

Actually everyone wants to see victory, however we all have different ideas of what victory would entail. Many people don't think that blowing up half a country would be considered victory. I think the question you should be asking is if it's possible to obtain a victory at all.

don't you mean why do only less than 30% of america want to see victory in Iraq? REPUBLICANS are spit 50/50 on Bush's handling of Iraq. all adults according to a CBS poll it's 21/75. you are in fairy tale land.

Define "Victory"
PS there is no such thing as "Victory in Iraq"
It's just Vietnam all over again, only with fewer deaths and worse consequences.

well... I think everyone wants to see victory, but I think most believe that it's "unwinnable" under the current circumstances...
when napoleon failed in trying to invade Russia in winter, wouldn't he have been a fool if he tried to take over the world again by taking the same exact strategy?
how long are people going to support failed stratagies? you can win a war by pretending the strategies are working...
the war really ended when we got Saddam, remember mission accomplished... we've just majorly botched the rebuilding to a point of borderline civil war...
