I know the author is a woman. It would be classified as teen mystery I suppose, and I think the word "summer" is in the title of one of them. I know this isn't much info, but it's the best I can do.

You know... I bet you are thinking of Lois Duncan's books. She's a mystery/thriller/horror teen writer who wrote two books with Summer in the title: "I know what you did last summer" and "Summer of Fear." (I remember summer of fear better... about a girl who's cousin comes to town and everyone thinks she's all that, but really the girl thinks the cousin is an evil witch.) she wrote lots of scary creepy stuff like "Down a dark hall" (paranormal teens at a boarding school) and "Stranger with my face" (about a teen who is posessed by her astral twin... freaky!)

check out the amazon link, you'll see summer of fear and links to a bunch of other books of hers... see if it rings the right bell.

Judy Bloom? She wrote on a lot of topics (divorce, religion, masturbation, dating, cancer, etc.) and one of her books is called Summer Sisters.
