I've been hearing on the news that doctors are very close to perfecting a pill that will allow you to go without any sort of a period for a year or more. And they claim it is completely safe.

You should ask your doctor about the possibility of getting it.

I had the same thing after the birth of my third child.
I worked very closely with my Ob/gyn with different meds to slow down the bleeding and stop the cramps.Nothing worked.
After a year of this, i called my Dr and asked for a hysterectomy that afternoon!
We scheduled it for the next week. She removed my uterus and left the ovaries. This way i was not in menopause and all was better.
Talk to your doctor.
Good luck.

it's a fairly common occurance to have heavier flow after childbirth. the tubal prevents the full actions of the muscles around the ovaries to flush the discharge during menstruatioin and those muscles have to work harder to make the menstruation occur. i suggest you ask for an otc remedy for the severest days of your cycle to help relieve the pain of the cramps.

I don't think there is anything you can do. I'd ask a doctor just in case there is...
