My Linksys USB wireless adapter was working fine on my Windows 2000 machine. Suddenly I'm not receiving a wireless signal. The adapter works fine on another machine and other machines are able to connect to the router wirelessly.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the adapter twice and this didn't solve anything.

I've tried repairing the connection and that failed.

I've gone into device manager and it says that this device is working correctly.

I've unplugged the modem and router and left them off for an hour and then reconnected.

I've plugged the USB wireless receiver into a different USB port and still end up with the same problem.

Have rebooted more times than I can count.

Any other ideas on things to try?

Thanks,

Gary

Mattsterchief2005,

Your suggestion was one that I hadn't tried yet. I downloaded winsockfix on another machine and ran it on the problem machine and rebooted, but still have "network cable unplugged".

Thanks anyway

Download the winsock fix from another computer and run it on the problematic one.
Or click start -> run and type "netsh reset winsock" and hit enter (don't type the quotes though)
Reboot
Good luck

Try the following.

Click Start -> Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance link.
Click System control panel link.
Click Hardware tab.
Click Device Manager button.
Click the + in front of Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand this hardware category.
Right-click the USB Root Hub and select Properties.
Click the Power Management tab and uncheck the box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each additional USB Root Hub listed.
Restart system by clicking Start -> Shut Down -> Shut Down (from the drop-down list) -> OK

Try moving the Modem to a different position. Some modems do not like being near OTHER wireless items such as a hands free phone. Or even the wireless mouse, keyboard or printer can interfere with it. Move it about 6 feet away if you can.
