Bad for us, because this idiotic ninny without a single worthwhile idea was left in charge of our military longer than anyone in history.

With those two clowns, it is hard to tell. Rummy is a profoundly idiotic person. Gates doesn't seem any better. Guess with Bush picking them both how can it be anything less.

There is no need for him to give any advise, he and Gates will and have taken their insrtuction from the President, and get all their information from the field commanders!!

I would guess that if Rumsfeld offered any advice, Gates probably gave him a "thanks, but no thanks" reply.
Rumsfeld giving anyone advice on running the military would be comparable to Jay Leno offering advice on brain surgery.
