Well I guess this is both good and bad, since he has the good sense not to give him what I am sure would be bad advice

Robert Gates isn't any different than Rumsfeld. They were given an same agenda. purely in case you in no way knew, Robert Gates replaced into also in contact contained in the cover-up of the Iran-Contra palms Deal for the duration of Reagan's presidency (even with the actual incontrovertible reality that in problem-free words Col. Oliver North took the autumn on that one). So in no way assume any significant replace contained in the Iraq warfare approach.

Good for Gates, because Rumsfeld really doesn't have anything to offer.
Bad for us, because this idiotic ninny without a single worthwhile idea was left in charge of our military longer than anyone in history.
...and apparently he learned nothing during that tenure.

With those two clowns, it is hard to tell. Rummy is a profoundly idiotic person. Gates doesn't seem any better. Guess with Bush picking them both how can it be anything less.

There is no need for him to give any advise, he and Gates will and have taken their insrtuction from the President, and get all their information from the field commanders!!

I would guess that if Rumsfeld offered any advice, Gates probably gave him a "thanks, but no thanks" reply.
Rumsfeld giving anyone advice on running the military would be comparable to Jay Leno offering advice on brain surgery.

I'm sure they had private discussions. It would be utter folly for Rumsfeld to give Gates public advice.

Very good. People should have not listened to Rummie in the first place.

The least that he could have done was to advise him to not go hunting with Dick Cheney.

Good thing. Now if Jimmy Carter would just take the same tact.
