I BOUGHT A USED LAPTOP AT A GARAGE SALE AND I CAN'T GET INTO IT BECAUSE IT HAS THE ORIGINAL OWNERS PASSWORD. IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET INTO THE LAPTOP? PREVIOUS OWNER DOESN'T REMEMBER THE PASSWORD.

Need the original software CD-ROM's that came with it.

format then reinstall the software then set your own password.

I forgot to point out that you will need an operating system installer disk of some sort. Your local computer shop is the best place to get software of any type because they can guide you to what you need as you tell them what you need as far as features of the software, and what you will be using the computer for home/business work/play. Part of the software selection process games in particular have very specific minimum hardware requirements to even startup let alone run trouble free.

A reinstall from scratch is best, especially if you're just starting out on the machine. You don't want any of the prior user's (probably) infected software.

Just get the OS disks of your choice (Linux, BSD, MS, other) and follow the install directions. It'll ask to format the drive for you as it goes.
