an example would be vince young of the titans. the coaches decided to get full advantage of his talents, they simplified the playbook and don't ask him to do alot. they don't demand that he reads defenses or pre-snap reads like other qbs. and it's helped him become the most dominant young qb in the league.

another example would be matt leinart of the cardinals. he leads the same type of offense that kurt warner had...which required him to make audibles, checks, reads, and everything. and he's struggled...although his o line isn't much help.

Great question-

It depends on the situation, hopefully, when a team drafts a young quarterback, he's already somewhat fits into the team's style. I mean the Titans had Steve McNair for 10 years and then got Vince Young, not a real stretch, though Vince is a little more unconventional.

An example I know well is last year how the Bears "simplified" the play book for Kyle Orton (after Rex Grossman got hurt), they really made things as easy for him as possible and allowed him to play and win (or not mess up), and the team got 8 victories with him back there.

Sure, the defense & run game carried the team, but if Kyle got overwhelmed or thought too much, he could have cost the team several games.

It would be interesting to know if Denver changed the playbook for Jay Cutler.

My thought is wait until the quarterback is ready and then bring him in, not change for the quarterback, but if you need to bring a guy in earlier than expected, due to injury to the starter (or he's just flat out bad), then make "adjustments" to the playbook ease him into the offense and go from there.

that actually is a decent question and it would be very helpful but then all the other players that have been in his system would have to change instead of 1 young guy that doesnt even have somewhat of a rep
