Unfortunately there probably isn't anything you can do. Smoking is a terrible addiction, and a person has to REALLY want to stop - themselves - before they will be able to do so. Nagging just does not work and makes the person defensive and even less likely to change. Your other parent won't be able to do anything either. I'm sorry, but that's really the way it is.

My father died from smoking, so I understand the pain you are going through. And I have had health problems all my life that are probably related to his smoking as well. I know he loved me, but his cigarettes had a MAJOR negative impact on my life. He wanted to stop so bad, but he was addicted and just could not stop, and he left my mother a widow with no money because it had all been spent on his smokes and his medical bills - they did not have decent insurance.

Spend as much time as you can outdoors or in the homes of non-smokers in order to protect yourself. Keep you room door closed at all times and get a good air filter for your room if you possibly can. As an extreme, wash your clothes at a coin laundry and take them to your locker at school so you can change to non-smelly clothes during the school day. (Keep the smelly "home" clothes in a plastic bag.) Your hair may still smell, though.

Although your parent probably can't stop smoking altogether, maybe you could get him/her to smoke only outdoors or only in one room that you don't have to spend time in. See if your other parent will help you in trying to limit the places the smoking can take place.

Whatever you do, don't start smoking yourself!! Good luck!

Try Febreeze, it does wonders. About your parent challenge him or her they quit smoking and in return you quit a bad habit ex. loose weight, drinking pop, doing own laundry. So on. Good luck and remember you got to give a little to take a little. Hope everything works out for you.
