I was 14. I wasn't scared because we had talked about it in the 6th grade. Of course, I got mine in the 8th grade. I was more mad then scared..meant I no longer could be the tomboy I was..according to my mom anyway. I had horrible cramps. Not every girl does tho. I remember I had my period for 14 straight days..I didn't think it was ever going to end. That scared me because I'd heard it usually only lasts for 3-5 days. If you can't talk to your mom, do you have a friend that has already gotten hers? She can give you what your'll need..tampons or pads. Your school nurse can also help you w/this.
There's nothing to be scared about or worry about. It's just something you're now going to have for the rest of your life until you hit menopause. Yayy for you. lol. Sooner or later tho you're going to have to talk to your mom about it. And I would suggest seeing a gyno sometime w/in the year, just to make sure everything is ok. This is just routine...every girl should have it done. I didn't until I was 18 tho. My choice..my mom couldn't have cared less, lol.
Good luck to you.

My personal experience was that it felt like a bubble coming out of my vagina. I didn't really have too bad of cramps, but my sister definitely did. Also, I bled more on my first period than any other one since. I guess because maybe it was my first period. It was also darker than the rest of my periods have been. I didn't start using tampons until I got in high school, but pads need to be changed frequently to prevent any smells and plus it feels like you're wearing a diaper. I know you don't want to ask your mom about this, but I can't think of a better person to ask than someone who's been through it before and can give you mother-to-daughter tips.

I didn't even notice it had started until I got home and saw my panties were gross. Ruined my favorite pants, too, blast it. I don't remember there being any cramps or ickiness, other than the blood flow. I do remember having the worst time all through middle school because I was too embarrassed to change my pad when there were others in the school bathroom. I'd time it for toilet flushing so no one would hear the wrapper crinkling. I wonder if anyone else did that?

I was unusual as i was 10 the first time but my mom prepared me just a few months before that event took place. Was out of school and knew just what to do. I was scared but knew what just took place. Just nature taking its course. Why dont you want to talk to mom? She is the one that you should be talking to about this. And why are you scared? If not to mom what about a school nurse? I take it that you havent had that first one. But I hope you know what to do when or if that takes place. Us gals have to go through it one time or other so I hope you know what to do when that time comes. Luck to you.

It doesn't hurt. you may feel like you have a stomach ache. My mom never talked to me about it and just figured it out (prob by the laundry), anyhow, just tell her and she'll hook you up with what you need, or you can leave her a note, or just throw some tampons or pads in the basket when you go to the grocery store!

It sucks, cause your going to keep getting them for the rest of your life, or at least until menopause. You need to talk to your mom, so she can get you the supplies you'll need for that time of the month. Some people get really crampy, moody, sick, but some people never have any signs, until they start. Once you start, you need to keep track of your periods so you'll know if they are regular.

I was surprised when it first happened. It was unexpected, but you end up talking to your mother about it anyway. She is probably the best person to talk to about it..she will be the most understanding and knowledgable. Moms sometimes are more help than we think.

You might start to get cramps, sore breast, and maby some headaces. But you need to talk to your mom about that kind of stuff. She's gonna be the one to go through 'everything' with you
