Oh, our dog LOVED to go get the newspaper! He made that his morning duty and he was never trained to do it. He just started doing it all on his own, which was great on snow days!

Yes, we used to have a Golden Retriever that would bring the newspaper in every morning. He'd even sometimes steal the neighbor's paper, so he'd get another treat. The Sunday paper was a little difficult for him, at times, because it's got all the ads in it. He was such a great dog.

My old yellow dog Skizzle-D-Wizzle used to have the paper at the door every morning not only that she would pop the rubber band and so it would flop open and then she would lie on it to flatten it out --I thought it was so cool never did I teach her to do this--the bad part is that she jumped the fence to go snag someone else paper-- Bad--I asked all the neighbors to see who was missing a paper never could figure out who it was--I lost her ant near 20 years old --forever loved and missed

Dogs can do those things. People just need to be smart enough and patient enough to train them. Most dogs these days are training their humans, which means the dogs are out of control.

My male weimaraner used to get the newspaper every day.
Now we do not have the paper delivered so he does not do it any more.
Since he is a hunting dog and will bring things back to you it did not take much to teach him to get the paper.

I'm sure they fetch the paper, I saw it on television and I don't think it was an illusion. I would like to know if any dogs really fetch slippers? UGH! YUCK!
