HELLO? LOOK AT MY NAME! I think that people should be able to express themselves through fashion of they want to! Our dress code is basic - No hats, no bellies, no butts. Simple! (I do hate the no hat rule, but i'll live.) The uniforms are just forcing the world to be perfect, and putting a lot of pressure. Also it is making everyone look the same, so you can't have ANY special qualities, and you just ARENT DIFFERENT! FASHION IS ALL ABOUT UNIQUENESS, AND GIVING WHAT YOU'VE GOT! NOT ALL THE SAME! If the World all had to wear blue jeans and a white T-shirt everyday, nothing else, then how would we tell people apart! You would have to wear a big sign on your "White T-Shirt" saying : HELLO! MY NAME IS: Jonathan #123545835090234434. That is NOT good. I mean, I think schools have a right to ask students not to wear skirts higher than 5 and a half inches, or no shirts above the belly button, but I mean COME ON! NO ACCESORIES, NO ROXY, NO ABERCROMBIE, WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? You have the right to dress however you want to! Why take it away?

First of all, I have to admit being a parent... so I may be a bit jaded.
My daughter had a dress code in every school until this year (8th). At her current school she is restricted from certain items and colors (i.e. strapless shirts, no red).
School clothes shopping was easier and cheaper. She had a little room to personalize with the fit of her pants and the style of her white-only shirts, but we didn't spend hours and hours trying things on like we did this year.
She also didn't spend so much time in the morning picking out her outfit for the day. Grab a top, grab some pants, Done!

I think it's a good idea to have a school dress code. I had one when I was in high school. at least you get to wear something nice, i had to wear a dress shirt and tie with black pants. The odd occasion we were able to wear khaki and a nice polo shirt. it lets everyone be equal, no one gets teased if they can't afford some of the nicer things then what other ppl can

I think many dress codes go way too far nowadays. Come on, the teachers know which students are dangerous and which are not. Unfortunately, the "No Child Left Behind" laws punish schools for getting rid of these students. Hence, our teenagers are forced to not be allowed to express themselves. Clothing style is very important to young people. I think that strict of a dress code is stupid - some rules should exist like, no private parts exposed- but as a teacher who actually worries about the education of our nation's youth, these rules are making eveyone dislike school.

Yeah.. i do think that school dress codes are stupid. At our school we don't have a dress code, beside no strapped shirts anything showing ur belly or nothing bad. which is stupid because they way we dress is how we show what we like and how we rock things. but i don't schools care, what we think.
And in our gym we do have a dress code. Shorts as in basketball shorts and Tshirt with the school's logo or mascot or you will get points taken off and you can't play.

this sounds stupid, but no they aren't. When you go to uni, you will wish you had a uniform. You wont know what to wear. And too bad if your uniform gets ruined, you can still wear it, but what about your favourite jeans or top? Its all about respect. Respect your school, respect yourself. Everyone is equal when they look the same, no one is outed for what they chose to wear. Imagine, I went to a all girls school, 1000 girls. Can you imagine the competitions in what to wear. Casual clothes day was bad enough. Your school gets off easy. We had a summer and winter uniform, along with PE. Our summer one was BROWN and white striped, with BROWN socks, and winter we had to wear a KILT and tie. with GREY stockings. Now before anyone complains think of that, we were called brown cows :(

I think they are ridiculous. I graduated in 2000 which was the first year they began enforcing it at my old school. Instead of enforcing uniform codes the schools they could just get off their lazy butts and try to enforce dress codes. Like no tank tops, no wearing your pants down to the crack of your butt, no flip flops, etc.

I think dress codes are actually cool...in that when you are on your private time you actually have a chance to express yourself in your dress. It's more an opportunity for you out of school, to be you. Youo should look forward to the time you get to express yourself and embrace that. Plus no one needs to be distracted with someone expressing themselves in their attire in school. I support uniforms.
