Like any other "muscle" in your body, your vocal chords need to exercise, so get a portable tape recorder and sing into it as much as you can. Listen to the playback with headphones on, and work on the sour notes.

Also, a safety tip, warm up your voice by doing little vocal exercises and drink WARM (not hot and not cold) liquids while you are practicing (warm herbal tea, for example). Cold liquids on warm vocal chords can actually hurt them. Sing in the shower--the warm moist air is good for your throat and the tiles make you sound like an opera star! Years ago Bill Cosby recorded a singing album in the shower called "Ol' Silver Throat" and it was a riot!

Do you know any good singers? Ask them for tips; if they are your friends, they'll try to help you improve your voice. If you belong to a local church, try singing in their chorus; any amateur theatre groups in your area? Join up! Don't be shy about it. Practice makes perfect.

If you enjoy singing, go ahead and your critics be hanged! Your enthusiasm is what is important. And who says you have a horrible singing voice??

There's an old saying:
"Dance like no one can see you, sing like no one can hear you".

Go for it! "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord".

Enjoy your holiday season.

No there is nothing that you can eat or dring that can help "improve" your voice. The best thing that you can do is work on your breathing and practice alot. The vocal cords are muscles that need to be worked out properly just like muscles for running or lifting. So you want to make sure that you are using your muscle properly. Breathing should be in the belly not the chest. When you inhale your belly should expand and your shoulders and chest should not move. Then as you sing or exhale you want to tighten your stomach muscles and make a sturdy base for your diaghram. The best way to get used to belly (diaphramatic) breathing is to lay on the floor on your back and put a book like a hymnal or text book on your belly. As you breath in make sure your belly moves up and expands. then hold it as you slowly exhale. proper breathing is the foundation for good singing. As far as learning how to sing properly so that you can practice. Well It's a little more complicated to explain in a small answer like this. But make sure you do not sound too breathy or too throaty. Try to make a steady even tone with your voice and make sure to lift the soft palate in your mouth. (when you yawn you shoujld feel your soft palate raise) If you are singing properly you should yawn often if you are doing it properly because you are triggering that muscle. The best thing would be to invest in a few voice lessons. Granted it would be best if you could continue with voice lessons, but if you can get a few hands on lessons to take with you and practice often that should be helpful.

One of the best things to do is to make sure you are singing properly for example if you are singing from your diaphram the results will be better. Also another tip is to do warm ups :try some tongue twisters/ that helped me, holding a note as long as u can.The more u practice these things the better your voice will be.
