OK So Im trying to control what I say. When I was growing up me and my brothers & sister would say "stupid" to each other when we were fighting or just goofing off.Im getting older and I have a baby now and I dont want him saying that word.I spent some time at someones house and heard the dad call his son stupid & they argued & the son kept saying "Im not stupid" so I felt bad.I dont ever want to call my son stupid but I've used that word so many times in a day.Not calling my son stupid but saying things like that stupid dog or the stupid rain or the stupid cable company needs to...You get the picture. So does anyone have any advice on how to stop yourself from saying a certain word. And you cant say just stop saying it, its not that easy. And if you think its that easy, you try to stop yourself from saying a certain word that you've said for a few years now.

I have the same problem with the word 's h i t'. i try substituting it with a less strong word, such as 'c r a p' or shoot or darn instead. Still haven't succeeded though, as I am still not used to using the new word unconsciously

Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Everytime you catch yourself saying the word "stupid" give yourself a snap with the rubber band. Giving yourself a little punishment will make you aware of how often you say the word. The rubber band will be a reminder not to use the word. You can also keep a little chart of how often you say the word each day to see if this strategy is working. You could give yourself a reward - like a special coffee or something like that each day it goes down from the day before. (Reward AND punishment). It's an admirable goal. Good luck.
