Look at your system tray. Often times, if you have a lot of applications that automatically open when the system boots, this can cause slow boot up. Examples include having Yahoo or Windows Live Messenger set to login automatically, or having Weatherbug installed, etc. Try reducing the number of those types of applications and see if that helps.
It could also be a type of virus. If you have a virus protection application, you should run a complete and exhaustivei scan of your entire hard drive (not just system files, but every file) and see if it finds anything.

It could be many factors: old computer, viruses,or even spyware. But usually the main cause for a new computer is that there are too many startup programs loading at the same time. In order to fix it you need to access the System Configuration Utility. 1st click Start, then click Run (on 2nd column), type in msconfig, then press OK, and you should see that System Config Utility. You should see the Startup tab (click on Startup) and you'll see the programs displayed when the Windows start (HOPEFULLY YOU DO HAVE WINDOWS OR IT WON'T WORK SORRY LOL)--for example, your chat messenger, your music software, etc--and therefore UNCHECK the boxes of the programs you don't need. BUT you have to be REALLY CAREFUL doing this b/c you might check the wrong box that might result in your computer not working properly hehe.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

There are many reasons. First, like they say, there are too many starup programs. Also, viruses can be a problem. But the major reason why is because of the hard drive. The hard drive takes an extremely long time to run through.

Everyone above is correct. Download winpatrol from the link below and scan your startups and services that are automatically starting. Disable anything not absolutely needed.

it could be the lake of space on your memory or it could be your computer is using to much space for differnt files. the files can use more space than they need to and there is a way to make that stop. you have to go to compress drive it compresses your files on your computer. then it could be that your graphics card is to small that would be another problem.
