If socially it is not acceptable for a male to hit a female, but a female to hit a male is not seen as being "that bad", then there is no equality.

If socially everyone should be respected, but females be treated like ladies too, then there is no such thing as equality.

Just a few thoughts, what about yours?

its not socially acceptable for one person to hurt another, so chances are if a male hits a female it is more likely that she would be hurt, not being sexist or anything, but men are generally stronger. Obvioulsy things are not equal, but society with its rules makes an attempt to equalize things, of course it depends on the times, and the society, but what was acceptable a hundred years ago has little bearing on what you do today.

There are men that are physically abused by woman and woman who have gone to jail because of it. The problem is that many men do not come out about the abuse because they fear being laughed at being abused by a woman. Social fear can stop people from doing what's right.
Equality is not an illusion. The way people think and act depends if it's a case of equality.
Basically there will never be a time that everything can be equal. Just like there will never be such a thing as world peace.

There are a few rules to that sort of "equality." In my opinion, a man must gauge how dangerous a woman is before striking her or deciding not to. Women sometimes use strikes in different ways, with different meanings than men do. Men are often more direct, and a strike from a man means something different than a strike from a woman.

First, determine if she's a "lady," i.e., if her behavior dictates that you treat her with respect or determine whether her strikes are meant an emotional outburst or as a true attempt to attack. (This is a good thing to do with both sexes, but for some reason there are more gradations of intent when a woman strikes than when a man strikes. ) Personally, I don't strike someone unless I have a need to disable them, and I don't do that lightly. My husband tells me I am more like a man than a woman in many respects; I suppose this is one of them.

In warrior culture, if a woman shows force, i.e., if she chooses to be equal to a man in taking up weapons and walking the path of the warrior instead of the path of the nurturer, then she is fair game and can be treated with absolute equality to a male warrior. This is a choice she has made, and then men in this culture accept it and treat her equally according to her chosen role. If a woman chooses the role of nurturer, then she is a last shield for the children, and a man risks more than just losing a woman if he strikes in error; he risks losing his home and future. In warrior culture, the male is the MOST expendable of the family unit.

What I am trying to say is that equality depends in many ways upon the path a woman chooses to walk. Most male-dominated systems of the modern world are slow to accept the unorthodox woman's choice, but it is only logical that, if she chooses to walk the path, she should be treated equally and expect equal responsibility and consideration. (I'm not sure how many board meetings involve knock-down drag-outs these days...)

A woman who behaves badly must be put in her place, but this is true also for a man who behaves badly. However, men and women respond differently to a physical attack. And this is because, in reality, they are raised differently, they think differently, and an attack has many different facets of possibility between the two sexes.

I hope this wasn't too long-winded! Cheers!

our society is far from equality, but i think you have point. there are things that are socially acceptable for women that aren't for men. also, there are sterotypes that women are labeled with, such as being weak and unable to handle situations as well as men, etc. i think with people hitting other people, men hitting women is related to abuse, which is a very serious topic in america and the rest of the world. there are some topics that are hard to resolve with a simple yes or no answer, and i think this equality thing you've got going here is one of them. you've got some good thoughts, though!

I do not agree with you... It is less bad for a woman to hit a man because women are generally weaker (physically). Thus, this only holds in the case that the woman is truly weaker than the man. If she is stronger then it is worse for her to hit him. You are getting caught up on gender instead of viewing it this way.

Oh course, equality is just an illusion. If we were all equal, the government would have us all on salary so that there would be no more poverty. Of course, that creates a problem for the powers-that-be who strive for fame, riches, and glory.

Stupid reasoning. You know better. You're right. Equality is an illusion right now. The hindrances are about to get taken out. Hey, you got moons on your fingernails, man? Why not?

Hitting women is wrong. If you like to beat up women, you have a mental problem.
