Is it possible to restore my Windows XP computer to the condition that it was in why I first bought? I mean by having just about everything the way it was: performance, hard drive space, etc. to original status. If so, how?

Depending on what the brand of the computer is, there are usually 2 different ways to restore your computer to original.
1: If it is an HP or a Compaq ( and various other models) there is a partition on the hard drive that has all the restore information on it. Usually during start up, you press the F10 key and it will enter into a restore program. You just follow the steps on the screen and you are done.
2. The other way is that some computers come with a set of restore CDs or DVDs. You place disc one in the drive and restart the computer and then it will start the restore program and you, once again, just follow the on screen instructions.

These will usually wipe the drive and partition and format then restore the original files. That makes it the way it was the day you bought it. Hope this helps.

The only way, truly, to do what you are hoping to do, hinges on whether you received what is called a "Restore CD" with the system when you bought it. If so, you can insert it into the CD drive and reboot the PC. When it comes back up, it will ask if you're sure you want to proceed. If you say yes, it will COMPLETELY wipe the hard drive (ALL files, not just system files) and reisntall the operating system & any applications that came with the computer. Of course, this doesnt' include any hardware changes you may have made. If you've added printers, etc. you will have to reinstall the drivers, etc. manually after you run the restore CD.

Yes You can do a Destructive Recovery or what is called a factory reset.
Turn off the computer and then turn it on again tap the F10 key repeatedly when the computer is coming back on when window`s is loading. Once the black screen with the hash lines at the bottom appears you can stop tapping. When the next screen comes up push The Destructive Recovery button it is under the Advanced Options button. But make sure that you back up on to a CD what ever you want to keep.Because it will delete every thing.and it will reinstall window`s just like it was when it came from the factory .

I hope this can help you.

When you bought your PC, most likely you got some CD's containing XP and other programs delivered with it by the factory. I'd run the XP CD's first and combine them with the instructions manual that comes with the PC as well. Usually there is a section, either on the XP CD's, either in the manual that explains how to reset your PC to factory settings. When you chose that option, normally you'll have your pc back the way it was when you bought it!
When you have changed the hardware, then it depends on how much you know about assembling a PC. When somebody or a company has done this for you, I'd consult them first to be on the safe side before you go tampering with the hardware that has been replaced!

Not unless you made a set of restoration CDs when you first got the computer. If you didnt make a set you can use the windows XP restoration CD, but the computer would not have any of the extra programs that were on it and it would just be basic windows XP.

The answer to your question is Yes, it is possible. As to your second question, it would depend on the make of the computer. HP, Dell and Sony usually ship with recovery and Operating system CDs/DVDs. Check for the CDs that came with your PC. If one of them is labelled recover disk, insert it into your PC na d follow the instructions. Be warned though that you'll likely lose all information you had on the PC as this restores it back to factory settings.
Hope this helps, cheers...

When you bought it they should have given you a "Quick Restore" disk. That will take it back to the way it was on the day you bought it. If not then you do have a "system restore" on XP.
Go to "start" "programs" accessories" "system tools" then "system restore." Take it back to the date you bought it.

Hope that helps.
