"The New Yorker", "The Paris Review", "Atlantic Monthly", etc.? Any tips for someone who would like to have work published in these magazines?

Not any of those big magazines.

The best thing to do is submit your work and see how the editors respond. If you're worried about embarrassing yourself or soiling your reputation, just submit under a pseudonym. Although you really shouldn't worry about that; it's better to try and fail than to not try at all.

One solid tip: Read the magazine. Read it a lot. Although, ideally, you should be submitting work to magazines that it's right for; you shouldn't conform to what other people think. If you're young, though...you could make a conscious choice as to what direction you want to take with your life. Everybody chooses a favorite style at some point.

If there's better advice, I'm not aware of it. The only thing I can tell you is to write the best story and submit it to the right place.

Maybe someone who has been published in the New Yorker will give a more specific/advanced answer.

Haha, the best I've ever done was my middle school lit mag. I probably could've made it into my high school magazine but I forgot to mention that I'd published my stories on the internet and I was accused of plagiarism ><

Yes, but not those you mention. Write some excellent, original, topical work in the genre/style they like, submit according to their guidelines. Wait until they respond (don't contact them beforehand). If the response is negative, chances are it will be, submit to a lesser magazine.
