the kids don't seem to care about ho-made stuff. All the ethics and standards died away with our grandparents

Rebuild the ethics and standards, it isnt too late. Start your own traditions.

stick to your guns! if they don't like it, that's their problem. hopefully, they'll have decent parents who will put lovingly-created items away until their rotten kids can appreciate them. if not, i'd quit giving them anything more than a mere token. in fact, that's just what i've done with several families i know.

another good thing to try is showing the really spoiled ones what underpriveleged kids live with and make do. take them to a homeless/women's shelter and show them.

Then don't give them the bigger and better gifts. It has to stop somewhere, and you are the parents after all. It won't be easy, but a job worthwhile doing will never be easy.
