Mcafee and Computer Arts have some spyware programs. I don't know if you are looking for freeware or not though. I think there is one called A&D that is good as spybot and is free or used to be. I found spybot to be pretty usefull but one came with my Anti-virus package and I just might as well as use it. One is probably good as the other in detecting spyware.

You already have Norton anit-virus? Spybot is another good choice. Here are a couple of other suggestions and links. It will be time well spent if you explore each of them.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Other programs that just plain help........

Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!

Those programs will help. I use them myself and have never had a problem.

.
Well, if you don't want COMPLICATED
why in the heck are you running Norton?
It's crap! It does NOT do its job, and you WILL get infected.

I understand, and you want good anti-malware, and anti-virus programs.
The solution:
Download 2 excellent FREE programs
A. For removing and stopping virus attacks.
B. For removing mal-ware and adware that act as trojans to retrieve information from your computer and your computer habits.

A. Get AVAST
1. Remove Norton. Dump it
2. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and delete the anti-virus program you have now,
if you have one;
then use your Search feature, type in the name of your current anti-virus program
if you have one > right click and delete any instance it finds.

3. Get this neat free program
Get FREE Home version of an excellent anti-virus software = AVAST
http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html....
Install > run > do a thorough scan
and allow it to run on your computer all the time.
Whatever it finds > select DELETE

The annual registration and frequent updates are free too.

B. Get Ad-AWARE spy-removal tool from Lavasoft
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
1. Download, install and run this program weekly or more.

BOTH EXCELLENT PROGRAMS
I've been virus free for 3 years now, since using them.

Well xoftspy is one of the best ones I have found out there. It finds more than any 2 others combined from my experiences.http://www.paretologic.com/xoftspy/lp/14/ Easy to use too.
You REALLLYYYY should download Hijack this and store on your computer because you can't always get it if your computer is already infected. Download the file from their own site http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip Then go to this site for a tutorial http://www.merijn.org/htlogtutorial.html OR You can then paste the hijack this log in the next link and have it analyzed too.

Thank the Talkingsoft.com blog for the links http://www.click-now.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=914
