This is a fairly simple multiplication problem. Since the final answer is to be in monetary terms, convert the pounds to a decimal. That would be 4.75 pounds. So, take 3.99 times 4.75 to get 18.9525 or $18.95. If the grocer was greedy, the answer might be $18.96. Some teachers say to always round up when you're dealing with money.

$18.96 if you're just asking how much four and three quarter pounds will cost at $3.99 a pound. The question is worded kinda funny, sorry if I misunderstood it.
