Thats the best team you have selected for the first test match, I agree with you 100%. If Rahul recovers in time, then he can come in place of Laxman. Then it would be perfect balaced team, but still Indian batsman have to practice to cope up with the steep rising delivers of South African Bowlers otherwise there's no use of whatever team composition is selected.

1. Sehwag
2. Gambhir
3. Rahul Dravid ( He will be fit)
4. Sachin
5. VVS Laxman
6. S Ganguly
7. M S Dhoni
8. V R V Singh
9. Anil Kumble
10. Zaheer Khan
11. Sreesanth
This team combination will do better.
Its balanced
7 Batsman. We need to ensure that our batting is strengthened, no point in getting them out for 250 runs and get out for 150 or 200.
5 Bowlers Incdlg Ganguly. Even Sachin and Sehwag can turn their hands as spinners.
What you say?

A real good team selection.
Considering that Rahul is almost sitting this one out, I guess the only change I can think of is Irfan Pathan instead of Harbhajan. Irfan managed to give a little fillip to the batting in the practice match and can surely bowl a few overs here and there. Just use him as a batsman who can bowl (instead of vice-versa).

India don't stand a chance no matter what team you play. Even if they play this South African team of the 80's (if they are still alive)

It is too early to predict the result of 1st Test at this time, as the type of pitch, weather condition etc. are not known niow.
