I recently visited my local family doctor, I was seen by a physician with a D.O. after his name...what is the differences between an M.D, a D.O. and a CFNP.

First, CFNP is Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who works under the auspices of a physician (either MD or DO). They can treat minor illnesses such as strep throat, colds, flu and recommend that you see the doctor if it's beyond their abilities.

An MD and a DO basically are the same except that DO's have a slightly different phiosophy than MD's, and that is DO's use manipulation (similar to a chiropractor) along with meds and surgery.
