It's not a stupid question...I've had moments of panic when the string disappears. A woman's cervix can be "deep", which means that the vagina is longer than one might expect, and the tampon can be hard to feel, especially if you have short fingers. Try the suggestion with the squatting, and then do a thorough self-exam to see if you can feel the string laying against your vaginal wall. Sorry to be so graphic, but also use your middle finger, since it's the longest, to reach up as far as you can to see if you can feel the bottom of the tampon. If you're still having bleeding, I would say it's unlikely you've lost anything, but I suppose it's still possible if the lost tampon is saturated. If you develop any unusual odor or any other symptoms, see your gyno. It happens a lot......good luck.

Here's the answer....you cannot lose a tampon inside yourself. It is possible to have the string up inside your vagina so that it seems as though the tampon has disappeared. The vagina is only 6 or so inches long, and is essentially a dead end. anything that is put up there (including penises) can only go so far before it hits the end of the road. If there's any doubt that you may have left the tampon in your vagina, do this: wash your hands, put a finger with short, smooth nails into your vagina. If you do not feel the tampon, there isn't one in your vagina. If you are still concerned that you might have lost it, go see your doctor for a visual examination of your vagina.
For future reference, using tampons and leaving them in for more than about 8 hours increases your chance of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). This can be a fatal infection caused by bacterial growth in the retained tampon. It is important to change tampons, and to remember to take out the last tampon that you use during your period.
Exploring your body is a healthy and natural thing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a hand mirror to explore "down there" I would encourage it. For some info on the femal reproductive system, check out this website: http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/changing_body/female_repro.html
I hope this helps!!

Read the instructions that come in the box with the tampons. It'll tell you how far. Its different for each tampon.
You should change a tampon every 8 hours or else you can develop TSS. remember to change it!

They can go far up but the string would still be there and you would prob feel the second one hit the first and not be able to go as high as normal. You prob just forgot to put one in. I think your fine. If your really worried you can go to the doctor who can look for you.... I honestly think you forgot and have nothing to worry about.

no it's definately not there, a tampon cannot get lost inside you. You probably didn't put one in, most of us forget we're on our period if something else is going on that is more attention consuming than our menstration. Don't worry about it.

no, it is vertually impossible to lose one up there. You can't push it up beyond your cervix. So, it is possible you took it out in middle of night and forgot to put a new one in or you didn't put one in at all. Goodness.

yes, be concerned. it happens sometimes. if you can't find it yourself, then call ur doctor. don't be embarrassed, it really does happen more frequently than you think.
i don't know all the specifics, but just know that any foreign body inside of you can and will cause problems. don't risk it, just go to the doctor.

Well, it can't get "lost" technically because it's a "closed end" type of deal. But you can retreive it. Squat down, like you are hugging your knees. If it's there, it will be pushed out by that position.
