I'm making a pair of wings and I need to know where I can get a fabric that feels like leather or skin, without killing some cow for it.

Depends what strength/thickness you are looking for, but any good fabric/upholstery store or warehouse will have a variety of faux leather and suede in different natural shades and colors on rolls, sold by the yard. If you only need a little, the large craft stores like AC More and Michaels should have what you need.

Pleather ("plastic leather") is a slang term for synthetic leather made out of plastic. For some, pleather is a derogatory term, implying that its use is a substitute for genuine animal hide leather to cut costs. Pleather is often used as an inexpensive substitute for leather. Pleather may also be preferred because it is lighter than leather. Others choose to wear synthetic leather as an alternative to real leather citing reasons of animal cruelty. Pleather, being made of plastic, will not decompose as quickly, so this could also be taken into consideration. Pleather isn't a trademarked fabric or brand name, according to Fred Schecter, vice president of Sommers Plastics, a New Jersey maker of elaborate synthetic fabrics. "It just really means a man-made leather, but it's not any specific type." Still, not all imitation leather is the same. The best pleathers are made of polyurethane, which Schecter said is washable, can be dry-cleaned and allows some air to flow through the garment. Another version of pleather is made of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, which doesn't breathe and is difficult to clean. "PVC under no circumstances can be dry-cleaned," Schecter said, because the cleaning solvents can make the fabric unwearably stiff. Excerpt above from second source below:

You can find inexpensive real and artificial chamois cloth at the auto parts sore. It is used ther to buff cars, it is soft and goat skin.
JoAnn Fbric has an ultra suede that is ultra high priced unless you are making wings for an art piece.
another idea is to go to a thrift store and buy a leather jacket. Your money goes to a good cause and the cow died like years ago, you can give it new life by not letting it go to waste.
Also, online there are craft suppliers that cater to the Native craft market.

At a big fabric store, ask if they carry Pleather. I believe it is a polyester fabric that feels and wears very much like real leather without as much bulk. Check this site www.denverfabrics.com
