He's only getting 5 hours of sleep?!?!?!?!!! That is insane! You have to provide him more opportunities for him sleep. He's little brain can't continue like this. He still needs at least one nap a day and an early bedtime. The reason he's not sleeping is because he's not sleeping. I know it sounds strange, but the more chances he's given to sleep the more he will sleep. He's overtired and when babies are overtired their brains produce a chemical to fight off sleep, it makes it physically impossible for them to fall asleep and stay asleep. He should get a 2 hour nap during the day and have an early bedtime at night, 8pm at the very latest. You have to try and fix this now or it will only get worse and cause serious sleep and health issues as he gets older.

My son has also changed his sleep pattern, I think they must do this from time to time. Advise from a health visitor is always helpful, they can offer different ways to deal with getting him to sleep at a reasonable time, which I understand fully that this isn't as easy as it sounds. The advise they gave me was to look at his daily sleep pattern and what he eats, then try keeping to a routine at bedtime (it takes a while) but it does work slowly he'll blend in with the routine and realise this is bed time and hopefully go to sleep.
I hope you manage to get this sorted as soon as possible you must be exhausted you poor thing.

My baby's sleeping patterns changed around that time. First of all, you might want to look at the length and frequency of naps during the day. Many babies start to reduce from two naps to one reasonably long nap at around 1 year old. Try altering his nap patterns and see if that helps.
It is also very likely that he is going through a growth spurt and is waking up because he's hungry. Try swapping his meals around so that he has his "tea" (sandwiches etc) at lunchtime and his main meal at tea-time. This really helped my daughter go through the night.
Make sure that he isn't just developing a habit of waking up and not being able to get himself to sleep again. Try either controlled crying or "pick up and put down" (go to your baby when he cries, pick him up and then lay him straight down again without talking or making eye contact) to see whether he just needs a bit of help settling himself.
Obviously make sure that he has a good bed-time routine so that he knows it's time to go to bed and make sure he starts getting ready for bed at a reasonable time (say 7pm) so that he isn't waking up because he is overtired. Keeping him up until late at night to try and get him to sleep through the night actually makes babies so over-tired that they can't sleep.
If he is teething, try some teething gel or Calpol to help him settle.
Hope this helps

my daughter sleeping pattern changed when she was about that old. I started giving her a nap between 11am and 3pm, then I played with her when started dozing off. I kept her up til about 10-11 and she slept through the night, just after a few days. if that doesnt work, at the very LAST resort, give your son 1/2 teaspoonful of benadryl. It'll make him sleepy and sleep longer.

NEVER give Benadryl or any other sedatives to infants for sleep. Do not allow daycare providers to give sedatives to your infants. Always consult your child's physician before using sedatives for sleep in children.
