I send a few holiday cards, but not too many. I'm Christian, but many of my friends are not, so I keep some non-specific holiday cards on hand, in addition to the usual Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, and other types of cards. For those people I know to be Christians, then I'll send Christmas cards.
I absolutely do not send "yearly update" or "family" letters, nor do I care to receive them. I consider those to be in the same category as Internet spam. I dislike mass mailings, regardless of what form they come in. I'd rather receive one single sentence written to me personally in someone's own handwriting than to get five pages of generic, Xeroxed nonsense.

Usually I design and print my own holiday cards with a generic winter greeting. This year I ran out of time, so I made photo cards instead. Got them mailed yesterday!
To close friends and family, I send a photo of our grandkids. Drop a short personal note to people I don't see often.
I sent 34 cards this year, number keeps dropping from year to year. Have only received about 8 so far.

I only send out a few cards per year, usually to elderly people who haven't yet discovered e-cards. Most people I know don't bother sending cards, and haven't sent them in ages, so why should I? The cards will just get tossed the day after Christmas, anyhow. And those dopey update letters are lame.

I make hand made ones most every year..and I add a personal message and if I have new photos of my daughter I send them too. I tell really good friends/ family a bit about what is going on but not a long update letter..most know whats going on.
People that are just say our dentist or mail-carrier paper person,
..I just wish them a greeting and leave it at that.
