yes I have had one. No they do not hurt. They put you to sleep to do it. It only takes them about 10 to 20 minutes to do and then next thing you know you will be in a recovery room. I may have to have a second d&c due to another blighted ovum, I'm hoping that my dates are just wrong. Good luck with everything and I am so sorry for your loss.

I have had 7 miscarriages and 6 D & C's. I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but if your doctor is doing it in his office and not admitting you to the hospital, it will hurt A LOT. Even more than giving birth does, in my opinion. I have had 2 live births. You can call your
doctor and insist to be admitted and put under general anesthesia
for the procedure, if a different method has been scheduled. If the doctor refuses, call another doctor ASAP for a second opinion or go to your local emergency room.
I have had 3 D & C's in my doctors office without anesthesia. It was horrible. My husband, who waited in the waiting room, said he could hear me scream way out there. After each procedure in the doctors office, I ended up in the ER and admited because of severe bleeding and pain.
The 4 I had done under general anesthesia in the hospital, I went home in about 8 hours after it. No pain at all. I didn't even have to take pain pills. Very little bleeding, too. Just spotting that lasted a
few days.
GET IT DONE IN A HOSPITAL.

In my case, they put me under (out) each time. I was a little achy and sore, but mostly felt tired for a few days. If you are worried about the pain, you can ask your doctor for ibuprofen or acetominophen, do this before you go in, so that he/she has the prescription ready for you. AND FOLLOW EVERY DIRECTION THEY GIVE YOU POST OP!!!
My post op directions were - Get lots of rest. Don't do any heavy lifting. Eat lightly but often and very healthy. Scale back any major walking for a bit. (Hard to do if your Holiday shopping isn't done, but then, that's what gift certificates are for!) And ABSOLUTELY NO SEX FOR 6 WEEKS.
My "Me-time Advice" is pamper yourself with some new cozy pj's and really soft socks. Take time to do your nails or some skin care. Seriously, until your system gets back to normal, don't push yourself too much.

I had a general anesthesia and so I was out for the entire procedure. When I came to, I had some cramps-felt like mild menstrual cramps.
Sorry about your miscarriage-it's okay to cry and feel crappy for a little while. I talked to my clergyperson and family members who gave me a lot of support.
If you're not planning another baby soon, you may want to use some kind of birth control. I got pregnant 2 months after the D and C!

my sister just had one last month. You go in as an out patient, they put my sister totally out because she was too nervous. You will have bad cramping for a few days, but nothing extremely bad. You will have a period 4-6 weeks after it, it will be really HEAVY so be prepared. Overall, don't be scared. You will be just fine.

Yes I had one. I was put out under anesthesia and I didn't feel anything when I woke up. I went home that day.

No I had it done, it's nothing. You're asleep so when you wake up you feel ok . Bleeding is normal & they use lazers now so it's much better than in the old days, don't worry !!
