Commutative Property:

A + B = B + A

(Think of commuting in a car, and moving around. You don't change anything, but you move the order around so that what you are adding is swapped. It's like A commutes to behind B.)

Associative Property:

A + (B + C) = (A + B) + C

(Think of who you associate with and who are your friends. Here you change the *grouping* of numbers. B and C used to be friends and would ignore A, but now A and B associate with each other and ignore C.)

Puzzling has it, but here it is again in different words - because sometimes that is helpful. Recall that this is only valid for multiplication and addition and not for division or subtraction.

Commutative Property: it doesn't matter which order you do the operation in .. you'll still get the same answer.

Associative Property: it doesn't matter which group you do the operation to first (that is what is in the brackets).. you'll still get the same answer.

Of course, these statements are true only if all the operations are the same - either all multiplication or all addition. If there are mixed operations (both multiplication and addition) the communicative and associative proprieties do not apply.

check this example maybe this will help
in communicative property a equation will be like
5+3=3+5

but in a associative property a equation will be like
5+(3+2)=(5+3)+2

in a communicative property the order of the numbers can change.
in a associative property we have to have the numbers in the same order but the parenthesis can change.
