Need to know to settle a bet. My guess is the Jamestown flood from 1880, my friend says the San Francisco earthquake. Does anyone have a site that has statistics available on floods, earthquakes, etc, or just know from your own research? Appreciate the help.

The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. At last revision, it is thought that over 3000 people died, either in the initial quake or in the days following due to injury and/or illness.

And I think you're referring to the Johnstown flood of 1889.

I would say civil war but that isn't in the bet. War is after all a disaster in a sense. I think it was hurricane but not sure. You also can't trust everything on wikiapedia since anyone can put whatever they want on there.

Don't know about a website, but I can tell you that in your bet, nobody wins. The greatest loss of US lives occurred in the hurricane that struck Galveston, Texas in September of 1900.
