No. A sealant could be chewed off by children, who will chew on the most amazing things.

Lead poisoning is a serious issue and we need to be clear and firm with China that exporting products of any type to the USA that contain lead is not acceptable.

Yes, it has happened.

Not only toys produced in China, also many paints and other objects of common use, e.g. pewter metal, can contain lead. A good transparent enamel should give a sufficient protection, but it's only temporary, until is worn from use. Cadmium, nickel, cobalt, chromium and other poisonous metals are used every day. Be cautious, lead is also used in glass... and chromium in stainless steels. A good idea for tracking metals release is to brush the object with a white cotton cloth: if a black trace is left, probably the object will release some metal, not only lead, during the use. It is a big problem with jewels also...but survival is at risk as the fall of Roman Empire should show to us.

Not only would the children tend to chew on them, they tend to rough them up and eventually destroy them. Also whatever material used to cover up the lead could be toxic as well. The Chinese tend to be very corrupt, for instance selling counterfeit pills painted with the the same yellow paint as they use for the yellow lines on their road. They could use lead paint to cover up their lead paint. That's why they have lead in the toys in the first place.

Hmmm thats complicated, if your tying to "seal" th lead in, no, but if your going to protect it for hazards, most likely effective. i am not super clear on this answer but sounds if your going to seal toys with lead, i think thats nuts, the should not put lead in toys no matter what!
