Reason: Had Jackson not stepped in, locals would have killed them all. While the situation was grim, it was the only solution. By getting the Native Americans out of the grasp of greedy locals, he saved lives.

We just finished a whole section on Andrew Jackson in my US History class. We came to the conclusion that he was a positive influence on the nation.

Negative. He set a precedent for refusing to enforce a Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Cherokee Indians and instead created what come to be known as the Trail of Tears for how many died. It was out own homegrown Bataan Death March.
