i have an ankle that i sprained quite badly two years ago (fell down the stairs....). it swelled ALOT and i could barely put any weight on it. when i went to the foot doctor, they said everything was fine on x-ray and that my sprained ankle being slightly bigger than the other one was normal(i never noticed that ankle was bigger until after i sprained it). last year i sprained it again, and just today about 4 hours ago, i sprained it AGAIN. i was walking and somehow, my foot fell inward. i heard about two things "popping" but was able to go to class. the pain isn't as bad as the 1st sprain i had, however, i feel more "bruising" than the previous two sprains i've had. the swelling is very little but it is very tender to the touch. i can walk, but with a limp because my ankle hurts when i walk (it feels like i bruised the big ankle bone). i know you guys aren't doctors but i was wondering, is this serious?? idk if it really is because of this big bruising feeling and little swelling.

After you sprain your ankle it becomes weaker each time you re-sprain the ankle. The tendons and ligaments may not return to normal so that after the third time the ankle is very weak.
There are braces for this or an air cast that fits in the shoe. The best answer is go to the doctor or an orthopedic doctor and find out the extent of the damage and base you decisions on the results.

sprains hurt worse then breaks. i dont think you need to worry about it.
ice it for 15 min periods with 5 min reaks in between
wrap it with a brace for support
after 48 hours use a heating pad instead of ice
keep it elevated when u get the chance

as i am sure you know by now, once you sprain your anckle, it never totally heals, and can be sprained easily after that

I'm not a doctor but I can say I'm somewhat of a expert because I sprain my ankle all the time. The reason why you keep spraining your ankle is that everytime you injure your ankle it gets weaker. In fact, as I'm writing this I have a sprained left ankle myself. I don't know what the popping sound was but basically rest your ankle and if you have a brace wear it.

It may not be serious, but something is definitely wrong--go to a doctor. But not the same one you went to last. See someone new!
