i'm so frustated. my 6 mo old son won't eat his baby cereal. he only wants to nurse all day. i've been trying for a month! i'll try to feed him cereal...but he refuses.

Then he gets hysterical and will only nurse!!!!

i'm so frustrated because now he's growing and i feel like i can't pump enough for him to be full throuhout the day.

i think that feeding him cereal once in the morning and then again in the afternoon will help, but he refuses to eat it!

does anyone have any suggestions? also about how to increase your milk supply...some practical tips?

I have a six month old also. She was born 5/29. Anyway, mine does not like cereal either. She just wants to nurse. I have tried and tried. Some babies just don't like it. I tried sweet potatoes too and she acts like I am torturing her by offering her the spoon. So I have been told not to worry about it because all babies will eventually eat solids. My other daughter hated all baby food and never ate any of it. She just went straight to table food and that's okay too. Don't worry. And as far as your supply, your baby will be fine. The more you nurse, the more you make.

They say oatmeal increases supply if you are really concerned, so eat some every morning. That has worked for me. My baby goes to day care all day and each morning I bring 3 4oz bags of breast milk. She drinks all of it every day. She is doing well.

Don't put cereal in a bottle! This is not teaching your child how to eat off of a spoon, which is the whole point of starting solids!

One last thing, trust your boobs!
That is something I learned on breastfeeding.com message boards. The ladies on there are very helpful and many of them are lactation consultants but I ask them anything realted to my baby, not just about breatsfeeding!

Good luck!

My son is 5 months old and I put peaches in his cereal. I give it to him in the morning and right before bed so he'll sleep longer. Also, make sure you are not trying to give it to him through his bottle. Feed it to him with a spoon. Make sure you only try one kind of fruit at a time. Give him only peaches for 2 weeks and if he does ok, try maybe some pears for 2 weeks. It will sweeten the cereal up a little. I make the cereal kind of warm too. Good luck.

well every baby is different and i am a mom of 5 months old baby boy and i started giving him cereal when he was 4 months old. but even i faced the same problem but he is getting it now so try what i did. dont't give him milk first ,start his day with cereal mix with either breast milk or formula. i dont prefer juice . try a littlebit first . and when you feed him try to talk to him , sing a song for him to divert his attention . and i hope it will work .
if it works chose me for best answer , it will help lol

Try putting the cereal in a bottle. Doctors don't really approve of it, but moms have been doing for years. I did it with my daughter. I would just put in enough to make the milk a little thicker than normal. You will have to enlarge the nipple hole on the bottle. You can also try mixing it with baby food, applesauce.

Try and adding flavor to it example make the normal amount of cereal you would think he could eat than add some banana's or some type of premade food or seeings how you're nursing instead of using water use your breast milk to make it.. more of a familiar taste!!!!

You can try giving your son just the spoon to play with, he will play with it and put it in his mouth and will get used to the feel, after a few days try the cereal again. Good Luck

Try nursing a little first to satisfy him. then cereal with breast milk in it or juice. As for the milk supply, keep pumping.

Make the cereal with breast milk, applesauce, or pears (any fruit that he's eating). You can increase your milk production by drinking lots of fluids and by making sure you are getting adequate nutrition.

my baby would only eat the cereal that was in the jar. She wouldn't eat the kind you make.
