I'm 18 years old and am about to graduate and my mother takes up my phone for every little thing and frankly I'm tired of it. I have a job, but have absolutely no idea what to do or how to start. I have a checking account and have good credit, do I need anything else? And how much would it be? I'm looking to buy a cingular phone...

Simple, but not with Cingular.

Go to Wal-Mart. Buy a Boostmobile phone for $50 up (the Motorola i415, or i455 for a little more), which includes $10 phone money - 100 minutes at $0.10/min. Call 888-BOOST4U and activate it.

No contract. No credit check. Completely bogus user information accepted. Pay as you use it.

Good luck!

If you are 18 years old you are allowed to sign a contract. I have used every cell company out there and Sprint is by FAR The BEST!!! for a new cell phone user. Don't get cingular there still to new in 5 years maybe. Also Please look into a One year contract. You will have to pay more for the non-free phone but at 18 Two years is a long time and if you break the contract there is $200-500 charge. If you want the cool phone go to EBay or ask your friends if they have a extra phone still take the free one they give you for a back up.

Basically, all you need is an ID or Driver's License, SS#, a checking/savings account would help, and valid contact info. Check out cingular.com for their special promos. They sometimes give away free phones and you just pay for activation.

Well, you have all that you need to get it but I recommend Verizon. Great reception and great phones. :). But that's just my opinion. If you want a cheap phone, go to:
www.Wirefly.com
Great website! Cheap phones too!
