The title of the play comes from a line in the last scene in Hamlet. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are a couple of mere pawns in "Hamlet" who are caught in the plotting between Hamlet and the King. Stoppard turns things around to show the events of "Hamlet" from their perspective. You could make an argument similar to what you're attempting here, by showing where their passivity leads them to their doom.
