but on my front door I have a welcome mat that has a big santa clause on it , and I let my son believe in santa just as I did as a child .. so are you saying I'm taking away from Jesus? why can't I believe in them both, I know what the Lord can and has done for me and that santa is just for fun .. do I have to be stuck up just because I know the lord.. can I still have fun and not be put down .. God knows my heart.. I believe we only have one life to live and as long as your not hurting no one you should have fun and always put god first..now on christmas eve I'm going to church then home to wait on santa to bring my son's gifts...

I think that, that is a great question! I was raised Christian and I still am. My parents were very strict Lutherans but they still shared the joy and excitement of Santa with me. I be lived in Santa for a very long time. It never once took away from Jesus or what God did for us at Christmas time. There is a balance that Christians have to do. You need to be in the world and not of the world. Your doing a great job!!

Actually, the reason for the season is just that - THE SEASON. Early Christians tacked on the celebration of Christs birth to help convert pagans who were already celebrating the winter solstice. Tricky, eh? Everything is so mixed up now that it's hard to say sometimes what tradition belongs to who. (Example: Santa Claus = St. Nicholas = a priest?) Christmas is a social tradition as well, so there's no need to cast out the non-Christian traditions of the season. Just like when it began, the fun traditons of Christmas-time just help to make celebrating Christ a lot more fun. Nothing wrong with that.

Lying to children and using those lies to bully, cajole and frighten them so they fear sanctions and deprivation at the judgemental whim of a fictional character is a modern invention from the makers of the lie that Jesus is the reason for the season.

The real reason for the season is not Jesus but, rather, Saturn and you should take careful note of that. It's good to have a celebratory season at this, otherwise, rather miserable time of year but why be dishonest about it?

Be good instead of bad and don't lie to children.

Our Constitution gives us the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion so that means if you want to have a Santa welcome mat in front of your Christmas tree, next to the Menorah in the same room as a Kwanza bush, that's your perogative.

Merry Christmas!

I agree totally, I know Jesus is the reason for Christmas...but I also have santa stuff everywhere, reindeer, elfs...Enjoy the decorating and have fun with your son while he is still young enough for it to be fun :)

I don't remember reading "Thou cannot have any fun" in my bible. As parents, we just need to be discerning, practical and always trying to remember that our kids copy what we do and say. If you want to take your son to see Santa, it's ok, but someday you will have to tell him the truth. Just try to keep a healthy balance - but have lots of fun!! God delights in you and wants to give you the desires of your heart! Merry Christmas!

I think you are allowed to think whatever you want. Who cares what people say, you dont have to be influenced by them. It's your beliefs and your son, you have the right to celebrate any way you want to!
