I am helping 2 students on a school report. One is for the pros and the other one is for the cons. If you agree that same sex marriage should be legal, state your opinion, and give reasons why. If you disagree state your opinion too, and give me reasons why. This is a school project, so do not attack the messenger. Thank you for your kindess. I need as many pros as cons.

God intended marriage to be between a man and a woman.

Marriage is a state institution, and therefore should be separate from religious doctrines. The fact that healthy, normal people decide to have sexual/marital relationships with other, consenting individuals of the same sex should be perfectly legal. It is a choice that has no negative affects on society: no monetary or public saftey issues or anything like that. Homosexuality is not abnormal, and can indeed be found in nature.

1 point for the pro's people. Why do they allow common law marriage and the state recognize it allowing heterosexual couples to get discounts on insurance etc... but they wont allow a same sex couple the same allowances?

I believe that the state hides behind the "sanctity of marriage" when it comes to same sex marriage, but is being hypocritical by giving common law marriages the same rights as married people. These people say they are married for the benefit to say they are married, this makes them no more commited to each other than 2 people living together.

legal. I don't look at marriage as a just religious union it is also civil. Spouse becomes your next of kin upon marriage. so many families ban the same-sex-partner from hospital rooms when in fact that partner may know better as to what the other wants. Just to name one reason. Love is love. I truly believe that homosexuality is in-born. That is not to say some choose it as a lifestyle for what ever their reasons. I guess this would be a very long way of saying equality for all.

"Honestly with this topic I don't think their should compare the pros and cons! There people its their business, their free will who they marry. Who cares. Let them be, that's what I think People are afraid of whats different in this world. Its there gays and lesbians will be, whats wrong with them having a ceremony and a paper declaring there love for one another. We will see them kiss on the streets, holding hands, kissing, on TV: But its not okay for them to get married!!!!??? COME ON! Its freedom of speech free will, and isn't America all for that! "Oh not that thought". Its crap!!! Its there LIFE. Whatever makes human happy. I am not attacking you. Peace & Love (Oh! by the its an opinion of a straight married person)

I don't think that anyone should be allowed to tell a person whether or not they love each other and I feel that if same sex wants to marry then it should be okay. If you will notice in these relationship alot of them are stay at home while the other works I feel if they are going to be in this relationship then they should be entitled to be covered by the working partners ins. This would help cut down alot of our tax dollars for medical care If one is supporting the other then they should be entitled to the same tax codes as married couples. by the way I am happily married to a member of the opposite sex.

i'm particular there are polls accessible that provides you with nationwide information, or probable on your own state in case you'll want. i will inform you something: we've had similar-sex marriage in Canada for a pair of years now, and surprisingly adequate, the international hasn't fallen down, our youthful ones are not being snatched off the streets, the marriage and divorce charges have not replaced one iota. briefly, similar sex marriages recommend no longer something to those except the gay community.

I think it should be legalize because it isn't any one's business but theirs what they do. How is what two people of the same sex do effect someone that is 1,000 miles away? If every same sex couple got married tomorrow, everyone's lives who were against it would still be the same. Someone saying same sex couples shouldn't get married is like me saying I think two obese people shouldn't get married because it is disgusting. (By-the-way I was just using that as an example)

the reason it should be legal is because there is no good reason for it to be illegal. There is no actual debatable point that can be made that legitimizes taking away rights from honest citizens.

It is no ones business what two consenting adults do but their own and it is immoral to decide that their union is less correct than your own.

When it comes to the marriage of two americans that should be all that matters. They are americans and entitled to the same rights as the rest of us. We should not stifle the rights of individual citizens because it is not morally acceptable. There was a time that being Black was not morally acceptable. Stifle the rights of one American and you stifle the rights of us all.
