Wicked Witch of the West = Hillary Clinton
The Emerald City = Washington D.C.
Dorothy = Innocent tax payers
Munchkins = Little innocent tax payers
Scarecrow = George Bush (no brain)
Tin Man = Donald Rumsfeld (no heart)
Cowardly Lion = Bill Clinton (draft dodger - no courage)
Horse of a different color = John Kerry (always changing and the long face thing)
The omnipotent OZ = Dick Cheney (hiding behind a curtain and pushing all the buttons...but I digress)

There are a lot of symbols and metaphors in that movie that can apply to a variety of things that happen in life, that's why it stands the test of time and continues to be applicable to new situations. If you want to understand what the movie addressed at the time it was made, you have to compare it to the history of the day and look for metaphors; but you also need to know about the time the book was written.

I was told if you play the movie in synch with "Pink Floyd's" DARK SIDE OF THE MOON the movie takes on a totally different mood and story. Start the Pink Floyd CD when the MGM lion finishes his final roar just before the movie starts. I never did this so I don't know how true it is.

People have suggested that the original book was a satire of different things (French Revolution, American Politics, etc..) but the author was most likely just telling a story without any hidden (or double) meanings.

You should watch it with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon... that's really fun to do... if you do watch it, make sure you know what you're looking for first!
I know that was completely unrelated, but I feel like I have to spread the word when I hear anything about the wizard of oz!

Thats all myth...check out snopes.com. Sometimes a movie is just a movie. This was an old story before the movie was made. Besides, this was back in the day...people weren't that devious then.

you'll just have to ask Frank Baum who wrote the book in the 1920's for his daughter as a bed time story.
