I don't think the lights make that big of a difference since they are short term. I think the everyday year round wastefulness needs to changed.

That was tried by none other than Richard Nixon. He didn't actually ban them but suggested that people voluntarily not use them because of the fuel crises of 1973. It had little effect and today's energy problems dwarf those of the 70s. There are a lot of much better things to do to really save energy. I just bought a couple of strings of low energy using Christmas lights. I also have energy from a power company that uses alternative fuels such wind. My lights don't even deplete fuel reserves or cause problems with the polar ice caps. Wouldn't it be great if more people came up with positive solutions to the world's problems, rather than taking cynical potshots?

They take very little power.
When you think about George Bush using a 747 plane for himself all the time or the fuel we burn flying bombers from the US to Iraq or the fuel used launching cruise missiles at Afghanistan farmers or the energy used by NASA so we can send food supplies to the space station, you can't really think that a few low voltage lights will change anything.

NO! Give us something to look forward to at the end of the year. Why pick on Christmas lights? Sheesh - you've upset me now just thinking about it!

Why be like uncle scrooge?
It's only once in a year.
In cheering up the misery of living human kind in planet of apes.
Why make everyone be more miserables in not giving them those X'mas cheers for once in a year in planet of apes.
That makes everyone bright , colourful and cheerful in keeping the spirits alight in planet of apes.
