I am studying fine art at uni and we have to come up with a suitable name for an exhibition.

This will be our first show and the fine art department have recently moved to a new building called ‘Ashburne House.’

We do not have a brief and we can produce any kind of work.

Any names or suggestions will be gratefully received!

Thank you in advance.

=)

Fine art is what the course is called - Americans call it visual art.

Some of us have not even produced work for the show - now you understand how hard it is for us to give the show a name.

Been here myself, its a tricky one as its early days for you all and there will be such a mixed bag in terms of interests that it has to be something that can be vague enough to avoid putting a slant on the show - ordinarily a title would almost be the starting point for a show and you would select artists that suit the theme, this way around you have to pick something that avoids suggesting one theme in particular.

most importantly you want something cool, preferably weird or obscure - gets people interested. definately not a pun, or anything cheesy, or even i would say anything pointing to your status, treat it like a proper show. think of cool names for group shows youve seen recently and go for something similar.

I often like to get them from books, just opening a good book randomly a few times and scanning those pages for anything interesting. song lyrics are also good. this way you get something that is already in the public consciousness to some extent, or at least, as in the line from a book, has a bit of authority or provenance.

No actual titles but hopefully this will help you to pick the best one for yourself

I would open an exhibition called 'Identity in the modern world" compare and contrast people from different social groups in society. It is a wide brief but you could brainstorm it. I would definitely like to be invited when you get the show up and running. LOL
