he has a chance only if reactionary right wing white Christian conservatives set aside their inherent prejudices and accept that a black man or woman has the intelligence and character necessary to be President. Fundamentalist Chirstian conservatives by far are the most racist element in this country, ie just look at the Bible belt and what it has become

There's always a chance. I've read some stuff by him and he seems like he'd be a wonderful candidate, really even-handed. He's even well-spoken, something that a lot of politicians lack recently. People have been talking about him as a possible candidate, and you know what? I hope America takes him seriously. I'd really like to believe that Americans can set aside their prejudices and vote for the right person for the job.

If I knew more about him and the other people considering running, I'd be able to tell you whether I'd choose him for the 2008 election. But I can tell you that from what I know of him, I'd happily vote for him.

I hear people talk, and the only thing I really think is legitamitely against him is how young he is. Maybe he'll be ready to carry that torch a few elections down the road.

Unfortunately, he may actually have a chance, which would give us about the least experienced person in history in the office of President. His reception by the masses seems to show no racism at all, unless it is reverse racism. We haven't even seen much of that as regards Obama, although there is plenty of it out there, as evidenced in the recent mid-term elections.

Of course he has a chance. There isn't one-tenth the amount of racism in this country today as there had been 50 years ago.

I don't know if I'm comfy with Barack Obama running. I'd love to see him win but I know the danger in it would be extreme. More extreme because of the racial tension that still exists.

I don't think America is ready for a minority president and I feel someone would go to great extremes to let us know this. It's not worth it.

Racism will prevent it.
I am a transplant for liberal Massachuttset!!Dont get me wrong Racism exists in Mass too. However since I have been in this state
I have heard Racial bashing from grow-ups.
Racial profiling that you see on telvision happens in this city.
A young man that works with my daughter gave her home because of bad weather. He was afraid to come in because of what we might thing of him because of the color of his skin. Imagine that.
Yep racism is alive and well. Unfortunately.

His perceived lack of experience will prevent this in 2008.
After that, who knows.
