What is the connection between the concept of and "epic hero" and the evolution of democracy?

All the epic heroes are undemocratic. Odysseus is who he is because he is king. Others live to serve him. Same but more so for Achilles.

Aeneas saves his people, because they cannot save themselves. They wait for a leader to tell them what to do. Picking a leader or even (gasp) choosing what to do themselves is beyond them.

Gilgamesh? Excuse me while I go laugh 'till I die.

Epic heroes are in stories which start in the middle, flash back, and end. They are not democratic.
